Wildlife
No family safari is complete without meeting Africa’s incredible wildlife.
Across the plains, there’s always something to discover. Herds of elephants, giraffes, zebra, buffalo, antelope and gazelle stretch across the horizon, while lions and cheetahs move through the grasslands and leopards watch quietly from the trees. And with hundreds of bird species to spot, there’s always something new to catch the eye.​ Game drives give families the chance to experience these incredible animals up close.
And then there are Uganda’s endangered mountain gorillas. Deep in the forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, families who are old enough for the experience can encounter these remarkable animals in their natural habitat. Their expressive faces, gentle movements, and unmistakably human-like gestures make the experience truly unforgettable.​

There’s something special about experiencing Africa’s culture as a family. It’s in the warmth of the people you meet, the rhythm of the drums and the stories shared around the fire.
In Kenya, families can meet Maasai communities and experience traditional music, storytelling and the adumu—the famous jumping dance performed with incredible energy and grace. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children and parents alike to learn, connect, and perhaps even join in the dancing.
In Uganda, families can discover the traditions and stories of the Batwa, one of the region’s original forest-dwelling communities. Through community-run cultural experiences, families can learn about their history, songs, traditions and deep connection to the forests of Bwindi and Mgahinga.
These encounters offer more than a glimpse into local culture—they create opportunities for families to connect with the people, stories and traditions that make East Africa so special.

Are safari tents comfortable for a family stay?

Absolutely. Safari tents are designed for genuine comfort while keeping you close to nature.

Luxury to Mid-range camps typically feature spacious tents with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, flushing toilets, hot and cold running water. Many also include electricity, charging points, a seating area, and a private veranda to relax and take in the surrounding wilderness.

2. iS It safe for children to go on safari? -
Yes — safety is a top priority, and safaris are conducted by experienced guides who know the terrain, wildlife behavior, and how to keep you at a safe distance while still getting an incredible view.

Camps and lodges are set up with wildlife safety in mind, and staff will always brief you on what to do (and what not to do) during your stay.

While wild animals are unpredictable by nature, incidents are rare when you follow your guide's instructions.
3. What DO we pack for a family safari? -
Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, tan) works best — avoid bright colors and pure white or black, which can attract insects or stand out to animals.

Essentials include a light jacket for cool mornings and evenings, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and binoculars.

Most camps and lodges offer laundry service, so you can pack lighter than you would expect.
4. Will we definitely see the "Big Five"?​ -
Sightings can never be 100% guaranteed — these are wild animals in their natural habitat, not a zoo.

That said, experienced guides significantly increase your chances by tracking movement patterns, communicating with other guides and knowing the best times and locations for sightings.

Multi-day itineraries and multiple parks (rather than a single day trip) also improve your odds considerably.
5. WHAT VACCINATIONS DO WE NEED?​

For travel to Kenya, the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), WHO (World Health Organization), and the Kenyan Ministry of Health recommend that travelers are up-to-date on routine and regional-specific immunizations:

6. WHAT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS DO WE NEED?​

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA): All foreign visitors—including infants and children—must get an approved eTA before starting their journey to Kenya. You can apply at the official Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) Portal.

Inbound travel health insurance: All foreign visitors staying in Kenya for less than 12 months must purchase mandatory government-sanctioned travel health insurance before arrival through the eCitizen portal or the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system.
